12 Years A Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o heads an incredibly strong list of nominees for this year’s EE Bafta Rising Star Award.
The Kenyan goes up against Palme d’Or Award-winning French actress Lea Seydoux and US star Dane Dehaan, who recently appeared opposite Daniel Radcliffe in Kill Your Darlings.
Nyong’o, a graduate of Yale drama school, is getting rave reviews for her debut performance alongside British actor Chiwitel Ejiofor in Steve McQueen’s adaptation of the story of Solomon Northup.
She is competing with Seydoux, the star of controversial lesbian love story Blue Is The Warmest Colour, for the rising star award, which is voted for by the public and handed out at the BAFTA Awards in February.
The other nominees are British actors Will Poulter, who has graduated from Son of Rambow and The Chronicles of Narnia to starring with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman in We’re The Millers, and George MacKay, who had a very strong 2013 with roles in How I Live Now, Sunshine on Leith, and For Those in Peril.
Good luck, Lupita!
